  • To answer #2: it is extremely difficult for a minority to go begging the majority to give them civil rights by popular vote. In the case of California, same-sex couples had the rights in question. Proposition 8 explicitly took them away.

  • I've always thought that, in the age of TiVo and DVRs, there would start to be pressure from other advertisers to eliminate this problem. Because while I'm watching TV, I may be distracted or just too lazy to fast-forward through every commercial break.

  • The NAMUDNO voting rights case has the potential to be huge, with major, lasting repercussions. However, since Souter's vote has always been pretty consistent, I don't think his upcoming retirement is going to swing any of these cases one way or another.

  • Thanks, Dharma Girl. You're right, we do have to fight for it. My frustration and bitterness with California mostly comes from how little anti-Prop 8 fighting and activism I saw here before the election, and how much fighting and activism I saw after it was too late.
